What is the difference between the ”Tasaki Original Meal” and the “Chef’s Original Meal”?
The ”Tasaki Original Meal” is in the Modern-French style, and the main dish changes according to the season. The “Chef’s Original Meal” is our chef’s own original fusion of Japanese and Western cuisines, and the main dish is a steak of local Omi beef.
Do you have wines to suit the meals?
We have wines selected by our sommelier to go with the ”Tasaki Original Meal”, as well as wines to go with the “Chef’s Original Meal”. We also have a set menu featuring wines that suit each of the courses.
I cannot drink alcohol; will I be able to enjoy the meals?
We also have a wide variety of non-alcoholic cocktails. In addition, there are non-alcoholic drinks selected by Tasaki Shinya.
Is there a dress code for the restaurant?
There is no dress code, so please come as you are.
I have an allergy; are you able to provide a meal that accommodates this?
We can certainly accommodate this. We can also create special menus in consultation with our guests. In addition, we can accommodate any likes or dislikes you have in relation to food, so please feel free to enquire further.

Rooms and Accommodation

What is the difference between the Villa Suites and the Luxury Rooms?
The Luxury Rooms are twin rooms in the main building. They have an area of around 40m² and you can see Lake Biwa from them. The Villa Suites are cottage-type guest rooms located a little way from the main building. These spacious rooms have an area of around 60m² and are divided into a living room and bedroom.
How many people can stay in a Villa Suite?
The maximum number of people is three. If three guests are staying, one of the guests can lay out a futon in the loft.
We have a baby; do you have cots?
We can provide a cot; please enquire in advance.
Can one cook in a Villa Suite?
There is an induction stove in the Villa Suites but you cannot cook in the rooms.
Are children allowed to stay?
Yes, although there are some times when we cannot accept reservations from guests with children. If your child will have the same meal as the adults in your party, the charge is 14,000 yen, including dinner and breakfast, while if they will have a special child’s meal, the charge is 3,000 yen, including dinner and breakfast.
When do cancellation fees apply?
From the day before the date you have reserved the room for (please see our table of cancellation fees).

We would like to stay for our anniversary or a birthday; do you have any kind of special offers?
We can provide a message plate at dinner. Please specify what message you would like at the time you make the reservation. In addition, we can provide a birthday cake (from 3,000 yen).

Facilities

Are the elevators and other facilities barrier-free?
There are no elevators at L’Hôtel Du Lac. There are stairs and steps inside the building. If a guest has mobility difficulties, we will do our best to assist, so please feel free to ask us for help.
How far in advance should we book the big private bath?
You can reserve it on the day. If you have a specific time in mind, we can accept reservations in advance. (There are two baths, and we request that guests use it for a maximum of an hour at a time.)
Does the water for the bath come from a hot spring?
It does not come from a hot spring, but we do use water from the mountains.
Can we bring our pets?
Unfortunately, we are not able to accept pets (although guide dogs are permitted).
I see you have a tennis court; what equipment can we rent?
We are able to rent out tennis racquets and balls, but not tennis shoes, so please bring the latter with you.
Can we use the pool?
Our pool is an outdoor one, so it is open only during the summer (mid-July to late August).
Do you have a car park? If so, is there a fee for its use?
There is a free car park.

Access and the Map of the Area

Where in Shiga Prefecture are you located?
L’Hôtel Du Lac is located in Nishi-azai-cho, in the city of Nagahama in the most northerly part of Shiga Prefecture. It is located on the northwestern side of Lake Biwa. Guests can enjoy scenery that is different in every season, including the cherry blossom of Kaizu-Osaki, one of the hundred best cherry blossom-viewing sites in Japan.
What is the nearest railway station?
From the direction of Kyoto (Kosei Line), it is Nagahara Station, while from the direction of Nagahama (Hokuriku Line), it is Omi-Shiotsu Station.
Can you pick guests up from the station?
We will come to the station to pick you up when your train arrives. If you wish us to come to pick you up, please let us know the station name and time of arrival. It is fine to let us know on the day.
How do we get in if we are coming by car?
There is a gate, which is always closed. Please press the button on the intercom on the right-hand side and say your name, and we will open the gates.
What sightseeing spots are located nearby?
You can take a trip along the Oku-Biwako Parkway (about 15 minutes by car), visit Chikubu Island (about 30 minutes to Imazu Port), visit the notable statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, in the Kohoku area (25 minutes by car), or visit the ancient battlefield where the Battle of Shizugatake was fought (about 15 minutes by car). We have many pamphlets, so please feel free to ask us for more information. Our website also has a tourist information page, so please take a look at that as well.
Are there any convenience stores nearby, or is there a shop in the hotel?
There are no convenience stores within walking distance. Unfortunately, we do not have a shop in the hotel, but we can provide lunch or snacks at an extra charge.

Other

Do guests wear slippers throughout the hotel?
Yes. In order to enable our guests to relax fully, they wear slippers throughout the hotel, including in the restaurant. If you have indoor shoes, please feel free to bring these to wear inside the hotel. We also have a special plan that includes shoes manufactured by the German shoe company Birkenstock.
Is it possible to bring one’s own wine?
Yes. If you want to bring your own wine to the restaurant, there will be a corkage fee of 3,000 yen.
Can we borrow wine glasses and a corkscrew?
Yes, we can lend these to you. If you require them, we will bring them to your room.
Is it OK if we send our luggage in advance?
Yes. Please send it addressed to L’Hôtel Du Lac and our reception staff will look after it.
